It’s the fifth nomination for Rage Against The Machine, the fourth for Kate Bush and The Spinners, and the second for Iron Maiden and A Tribe Called Quest.

It might seem odd to list Joy Division and New Order as a single act, since they’re technically two different bands. But New Order was formed almost immediately after frontman Ian Curtis’ suicide in 1980 by the three surviving members of Joy Division. The only difference was the addition of keyboardist Gillian Gilbert a few months later. (In 2012, the Hall of Fame combined Small Faces and the Faces into one unit, even though they had two different singers and very different voices. It’s easy to argue that Joy Division and the New Order have more in common than these two groups DNA.)

The Hall of Fame is one of the few places outside the courtroom where deeply estranged band members are forced back into the same room. This led to a surprising reunion of years-dormant bands such as Cream, Led Zeppelin, Talking Heads, the Police and Doors. The class gave New Order the chance to perform with ex-bassist Peter Hook for the first time since 2006, and for Jack White and Meg White to play together again for the first time since the final episode of White Stripes Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 2009.

It’s also a chance for the surviving members of A Tribe Called Quest and Soundgarden to play together again. Rage Against The Machine is on indefinite hiatus as frontman Zack de la Rocha recovers from a severe left Achilles tear on the second night of the band’s 2022 reunion tour, but they could also be Participate in the competition.

The Class of 2023 will be selected by more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry selected by rock halls. In recent years, the Hall of Fame has awarded Musical Excellence, Ahmet Ertegun Awards and Early Impact Awards to numerous artists who did not appear on the ballot. In 2022, 7 actors selected from the ballot will be officially selected, and another 7 actors will receive other awards.

The final Hall of Fame induction will take place on November 5, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. No word on where it will be held this year.
